Day 2... Hard Work!

Well... Today was pretty exhausting, but so rewarding. We started to help build the house today, as you might have learned from previous posts. I have got to say, our group is pretty amazing. We all were hurting and sweating profusely by the end of the  day, but kept good attitudes throughout the whole process.
The most awesome part of our day was getting to help with this ministry's feeding program. About 50 kids come to the mission site after school to get a free lunch. Afterwards, they get time to play with each other and us. I was so surprised by how fast those kids gulped down their meal; it makes you wonder if they get fed much, if anything at all, until they come here. Once the kids were finished, we were all able to get to know the kids better. Even with the language barrier, these kids were still so eager to spend time with us and be loved. After play time, we all boarded a school bus and brought the kids home. It was pretty unreal to see the living conditions of some of these kids.
After finishing our concrete work, we got to take showers. I've got to say... that was probably my most needed shower ever. Afterwards, we got to go out for ice cream and hang out in the town square. It is so different to be the minority- literally everyone stares at us and our pale skin!
To sum up today and even some of yesterday, I'm going to list a few things that have stood out to me in Honduras:
-Mirrors are not well found here
-Hondurans wear jeans and even long sleeved tops... they don't even break a sweat!
-The food here is fresh, natural, and DELICIOUS
-They have weird flavors of ice cream here
-Kids wander around everywhere even in the dark
-When a cop is flashing their lights behind you, don't worry, because they are probably just playing with them.
-Pop is better here because it is made with sugar cane
-Toilet paper is not flushed, it is thrown away
-Dishes and clothes are washed using the same water
-People don't dispose of their trash in trash cans, the ground is free game!

...And that's all for today, guys! Keep coming back and reading; we will be posting daily!

Love,
Elissa
